About Our Team
Dr. Jim Himmelberg – Veterinarian (DVM)
Hi there! I am more commonly known as “Dr. Jim” I grew up in Omaha and earned my Bachelors Degree at Creighton University. In 1986 graduated from the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine . My family has lived in Lincoln since 1993 and I was previously employed at Belmont Veterinary Center. In June 2009, Vintage Heights Veterinary opened after several years of planning and hard work. I have two sons and my wife Kebbelin works for Lincoln Public Schools. I especially enjoy surgery, internal medicine and dermatology. Willow and Charlie are our Golden Retrievers and we have two cats, Sox and Smokey. Willow accompanies me to work and she “smiles” when greeting visitors at the clinic. So stop on by and we will both smile for you!
Tonya – Head Veterinary Technician (LVT)
Hi! My name is Tonya and I first started working part-time at Vintage Heights in June ’09 to Sept ’11. Now I am back full-
time. I graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Veterinary Technology with an Associates degree in 2007. I worked full-time at Veterinary Emergency Services until 2011 and still work there on a part-time basis. Since 2011 I have been working in small animal practices. During my free time I love to garden, refinish and re-purpose furniture, and spend time outdoors with family and friends. I have a 7 year old cat named Jewel, a 15 year old Golden Retriever named Morgan, and a 2 year old Pitt Bull named Maizy I absolutely love and adore them all!
Michelle – Veterinary Technician (LVT)
Hello! I have been in the Veterinary field for almost 6 years! I received my tech license in 2011 at Iowa Western University and then worked for 3 years at Council Bluffs Vet. I then moved to California for about a year and worked at a clinic there. From California, I moved here to Nebraska where I started at Belmont Veterinary Center, which is the “Sister Clinic” to Vintage Heights. I visited Vintage Heights and fell in love with the clinic! I immediately wanted to work here and I have now been here for a little over 6 months. I also have a second job at Bed Bath and Beyond as a Customer Service Representative, which I have had for about a year now. I have four cats at home and I am almost about to finish another degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from UNL.
Mindy – Receptionist
Hello there! My name is Mindy Buterbaugh and I am a student at Southeast Community College. I am studying Human
Services and Human Behavior. I love working with people and animals; My knowledge and experience comes from volunteering at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo – Jr. Zoo Crew Program. I have also been in a part of the Nebraska Cornhusker Pony Club. I currently volunteer with Northern Plains Boxer Rescue as a foster mom. I work with dogs to help them overcome behavioral problems, and I then help to place the right dog with the right family. Other social skills stem from my cosmetology background of 18 years. I am married and we have two elementary aged girls. Our family also consists of a Boxer, a Boston Terrier, a free range rabbit, and Pineapple Green-Cheeked Conure, a Sun Conure, and 55 gallon fish tank with assorted fish, and finally, a Leopord Gecko.
Ellen – Receptionist
Hello all! When you first come in, you will probably see me! My name is Ellen Jarvis and I am Jan, the Kennel Manager’s, daughter. I work as the receptionist here at the hospital. Although I have been working here only for a short time, I love it! I have a great/busy time here at the clinic, but also at home! I have a two year old son who always keeps me busy and very entertained.
Millie – Groomer
Hello! I started as a receptionist here at Vintage Heights and after time realized that I would enjoy grooming! I have had 7 years of experience in the vet world before coming to Vintage Heights. I have two dogs, a black Lab (11yrs) and a Siberian Husky (4yrs). They are my kids and bring joy to my life everyday. I just don’t know what I would do without them.
Janet – Kennel Manager & Trainer
Hi, I’m Jan!! I have a B.A. from UNL and a Masters from the University of Alabama, and am now studying to become an animal behaviorist. I have always been involved in animal care in one capacity or another. Before Husker Cats was formed, while working at UNL, I rescued campus cats. I’ve helped bathe and release oil-drenched animals in Anacortes, WA. I’ve been a docent at the Lincoln Children Zoo where I also taught summer classes in ’03. I train dogs, and have two Australian Shepherds, Rex and Sadie, and a Dachshund named Juno. I have the unique opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the clinic, which I love, by taking care of boarding animals, and assisting wherever I’m needed. I go to people’s homes and train their animals. Give me a call if you have questions or need help!
Vinnie – “Clinic Supervisor”
Hey! It’s Vinnie the clinic cat. You know, the big orange tabby who greets you when you come in. I enjoy boxing, talking and arguing with the employees here. They sometimes forget that they work for ME and that I am in control of this place. I simply tolerate the humans and the dog that inhabit MY work space. I started out as an abandoned kitten and the staff here cared for me and helped me reach my full feline potential. Stop on by and we can talk about mice, fur balls or how ridiculous Willow looks when she smiles!
Willow – “Clinic Greeter and Food Tester”
Yahoo! It’s Willow, the clinic greeter. Life is a party and I don’t care if I am the only one invited. My smile can look a little scary, but I am just so happy to see you when you come in that my face wrinkles. Ignore the tabby cat who thinks he owns the place. I’m the only one that is important here…well, besides my dad (Dr. Jim).
Mayzie -“Crazy Mayzie” Momma Dog
Hello everyone! My name is Mayzie and I belong to the greatest owner EVER! Her name is Tonya and I love her SO much! If she leaves my sight I get really upset until I find her. These nice people at the clinic saved me from a bad place in Missouri. I was really sick and had heart worms that were hurting me and making it hard for me to run and play. After I was saved, I felt SO much better! I am now the happiest dog ever and I love, love, LOVE to run! I love everyone and really enjoy playing around with all of my goofy humans friends here at work everyday!
